The Enigma of the Duck
23 June 01
Hey there ... come one come all we've got a great show under the big top! Ok just kidding. I don't have anything really profound to say right now so I won't. Can't be intense all the time I suppose. So let's have a little story instead.
Last night Steve and I saw a couple of bands from out of town whose names I won't mention. My first impression of the evening's entertainment was the singer of one band skipping naked through the club. To add insult to injury ... their music was as imaginative as the yellow paint on a number 2 pencil. The doorman let me know that this was the third time in 2 hours they had played this song. The folks are swimming in a sea of retarded sexuality to be sure. When it came time for the "headlining" act we were treated to that band's vocalist onstage explaining ... "ok guys the club owner called the cops 'cause somebody was smoking week outside and a couple of my band member just happened to be there and it became a big deal for some reason so ... we're going to get the fuck out of here." !!!!!!!! Ok ... band business 101 ... Never insult the club owner over the microphone if you expect to get paid. Stupidity is not entertaining in anybody's mind but your own - and doesn't help you make stale, juvenile music more fresh. If you must smoke don't do it right outside the door - no club owner wants to get shut down or raided and have his/her customers run off just because you - the "rock star" wanted to get high before your set. Discretion is the better part of valor. Again - refer to my comment on stupidity. Like I said, I'll leave the names out because I don't want to do any mudslinging but those guys surely won't be asked back to that venue ( Volume31 will be appearing there in the future and we won't be acting like that). I'll end this with a quote: "Stupid is as stupid does ..."
